The coastline of Salerno, Italy

The coastline of Marina di Camerota and Palinuro are well-known all over Europe and overseas because the remains of "Homo Camerotaensis" were allegedly found in the wonderful caves. Despite some doubters, a prehistoric man, contemporary to the Neanderthal man, chose this place as his habitat.

Campanula is a region of Southern Italy, bordering on Lazier to the north-west, Mollie to the north, Paula to the north-east, Basilica to the east, and the Triennia Sea to the west. In the south is the province of Salerno, an area rich in geological interest and a fantastic coastline where you'll find the harbour town of Marina did Camerota. Click this link to open a glorious aerial view of the town and harbour in Google Maps

Sandy shores and cliffs, the sun and the sky bring out the richness of this ancient land. The endless beach of Cala del Cefalo, the rocky spur of Capogrosso, Capo Palinuro, the breathtaking architecture of Cala Fetente's cliff, the sandy depths and clear transparent waters, the rocks rising sheer from a deep see of an unbelievable blue, located just a bit further, will all remain fixed in your memory forever.

Immerse yourself a province full of Roman and Grecian history

Wherever you look, you find traces of the past, which show man's interest for this region since then. Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans and barons of the Middle Ages chose this part of the coast with its interior land for important settlements. A visit to the temples of Palest or the archaeological site of Vela, takes us back to past times, a history that is part of every European. The medieval village of S. Severn lies just a few minutes from Marina did Camerota and Palinuro and will charm you with its atmosphere and its wonderful natural scenery. But every little village that you will encounter along the roadway, will delight you with its architectonic structure.

Experience the romance of the legend of Palinuro

According to a legend the coxswain on Enneads' ship, Palinuro, fell in love with Admiration, a girl of goddess-like beauty but with a heart of stone, who did not correspond the young man's love. Desperate, Palinuro chased Admiration's image into the deep sea, thus giving his name to Capo Palinuro. Then Venus transformed the girl into a desolate rock; the one where Camerota was built. Camerota contains some "pearls" of our culture: absolutely original architectural structures, a traditional cuisine, clay handwork still carried out according to old techniques, olive and carob wood sculptures.
